½ cups ketchup (heaping)
½ cups brown sugar, packed
¼ cups bourbon whiskey
1 teaspoon fresh lemon Juice
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1 pound ground beef
1 teaspoon salt
¼ teaspoon ground pepper
6 green onions, chopped
In a medium bowl, combine the first five ingredients. Mix well to make the sauce for the meatballs. Set aside to allow the flavors to meld.
Meanwhile, combine salt, pepper, green onion, and ground beef. Mix with your hands until well blended. Form 1-inch meatballs from the meat mixture. Brown the meatballs in a sauté pan that’s set to medium-high heat.
Place the meatballs in a crock-pot, and pour the whiskey sauce over meatballs. Mix so each meatball is coated with the whiskey sauce. Set crock-pot to low. Cook on low for two hours. Once sauce has thickened, remove meatballs. Skewer with tooth picks and serve with the extra sauce on the side.
Yields: 2-dozen meatballs
